Robbery: Corporate civil and criminal liability
20 September 2005

Digby Ram, Managing Director of IBP International, reminded delegates attending the 2005 Focus on Robbery™ Symposium of their corporate civil and criminal liabilities and updated them on forthcoming legislation.

Digby’s 2005 Focus on Robbery presentation was in three parts:

He recapped on the 2004 Focus on Robbery presentation by John Hurst (ex head of security of First Quench Plc), where he described how organisations should avoid (and defend themselves against) the now common claims of over £100,000 for trauma associated with robbery.

He then described to delegates the factors the Health and Safety Executive took into account when deciding whether to prosecute under ‘Duty of Care’ legislation.

Finally he updated the floor on recent Corporate Manslaughter precedent and summarised the salient clauses of the proposed Corporate Manslaughter Bill, which is in the Committee Stage and which is due to be on the statute books during 2006.
