Chain and Smoke foils ATM rip out
06 October 2004

Senior security executives from major financial institutions and retailers witnessed a 4x 4 vehicle attempting an ATM rip out... and failing. IBP’s two-day Robbery Symposium event, held at Hayling Island Sailing Club, included a number of product demonstrations including IBP’s latest solution to the increasing number of ram-raid attacks on ATMs.

The use of Ram-chain™, Smoke-shield™ and strobe lighting is designed to deter and prevent an attack on the ATM and has already been installed in a number of financial institutions.

Having failed to break the Ram-chain™ in front of the delegates using a Landrover Defender 110 TD5, IBP subsequently conducted a second trial using a 13.75 ton New Holland TG255 tractor, but were still unable to remove the ATM from the concrete base. TG255 has a torque rating of 1220Nm at 14000 revs. The photos show the sequence of events as the military sling is attached and then as the tractor tries to break the Ram-chain™.

IBP’s Ram-chain™ has a breaking strain of 26.7 tons and when combined with Smoke-shield™ and the strobe light provides a package of measures that makes an attack on the ATM not only near impossible but also pointless. Some 375 cubic metres of dry white smoke is emitted during the first 60 seconds making visibility impossible. It continues to emit smoke, at a rate of 150 cubic metres per minute until the fluid container empties or the system is stopped manually. The smoke leaves no smell and a room can be cleared, with sufficient airing, within 20 minutes

For more details about Ram-chain™ or Smoke-shield™ contact info@ibp-group.com or call +44 (0)1428 641399.
