This years Symposium included case studies from experts in their field from the ATM, cash-in-transit, jewellery and cash management industries with presentations from two specialists in the area of victimes and protecting people in the business enviromnent.

Eleven first-rate guest speakers including Graham Mott, LiNK, the UK’s cash machine network, Michael Hunt, Shell Security Manager, Hugh Gilmour, G4S Regional Risk Director, Melanie Espin, UK Payments Cash Services Manager and Kevin Tasker, Centre for Crisis Psychology, delivered insightful presentations on a variety of important security issues affecting businesses today.

In addition delegates were offered the opportunity to participate in two special breakout sessions focussing on the top tips to prevent ATM crime, facilitated by the veteran ATM security manager, Alastair Richardson.

Opening the two-day event, Symposium chair Richard Childs QPM, former Lincolnshire Police Chief Constable and managing director ACPO Secured by Design, welcomed the delegates.  He particularly greeted those attending for the first time and observed that this year’s attendance of over 110 delegates had beaten all previous records.

The outputs from the Symposium form part of the ongoing research and work undertaken by delegates, trade associations, the financial industry and police.  The aim of the partnership is to harness expertise from every discipline that has an interest in understanding the reasons for criminal behaviour, analysing the effectiveness of current reduction measures and reducing violent crime.

In concluding the symposium, Richard Childs commented: “This has been one of the very best security conferences I have had the privilege to chair.  The sheer quality of the agenda and speakers has been outstanding, plus the delegates have made an enormous contribution in the overall debate – thank you all for being part of this fantastic event.”
